07.20.10 Emergency Repair Outage Begins at Midnight
Orbitel Communications will be doing emergency repairs that will interrupt ALL Orbitel services in Sorrento, Rancho Mirage and Desert Passage between the hours of midnight Tuesday July 20 through 6am on Wednesday July 21 .
On Monday July 19, 2010, a contractor working in Maricopa hit a fiber transport cable while digging with a back hoe. Orbitel was able to make temporary repairs and NO Orbitel customers have experienced any interruptions in service. It is necessary for Orbitel to make permanent repairs to the damaged cable. In order to make those repairs, services will be interrupted while a new fiber optic cable is installed to replace the damaged cable. Orbitel is performing this work during these hours to minimize any inconvenience that may occur to its customers.
Customers in Sorrento, Rancho Mirage and Desert Passage will be effected while these repairs are being made. Orbitel does not expect that the work will take all six hours but is identifying these hours when service may be off the air.
Orbitel expects all services to be fully restored and the permanent repairs to be completed by no later than 6am on Wednesday July 21.
